When discussing the concept of being proactive, Covey (1989) presents three areas that call for our response: “direct control (problems involving our own behavior); indirect control (problems involving other people’s behavior); or no control (problems we can do nothing about …)” (p. 85). “Changing our habits [for direct control], changing our methods of influence [for indirect control] and changing the way we see our no control problems are all within our Circle of Influence” (Covey, 1989, p. 86).
