Epistle to the Philippians

Philippians is a letter written to stimulate our love for the Lord and all that He has done for us, and to provide us with some very practical guidance in living the life to which God has called us. Remember, we have been called unto holiness of life (1 Thessalonians 4:7); this is what God has designed for us when we place our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:10). Once again, we MUST realize that the Christian life is not a walk in the park, nor is it something through which we can coast. The world of Evangelicalism provides us with absolutely no example of what it means to be a follower of Christ; we must fix our eyes on the Author of our salvation, and study His Word so that we can grow in our understanding of what it means to be a Christian. Jesus said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21); obedience to the commandments of the Lord is the one sure sign that we have been born again by the Spirit of God (1 John 2:3). If we say, “I know God!” – but we do not keep His commands, we are liars (1 John 2:4)! Is that not the condition of most of what is termed Evangelical today? There are many professors, but few who are willing to be obedient to God. This brief letter provides us with the reason we should be motivated to know God and His Word, and gives us important instruction on how to live according to our holy calling. God bless you as you take the time to strengthen your walk with the Lord. As always, this is not an exhaustive study; it is my prayer that you will be encouraged and challenged, and emerge rejoicing in the Lord Jesus Christ!
